Why did you VOTE?

Please consider why you voted and why you really voted. I ask this because I am hearing allot of talk about broken promises, two months after the election which saw the former regime soundly and loudly voted out of government..
I am hearing people say that the electorate voted for the 3,000 pension at age 60 and without any qualifying requirements. I am hearing that the electorate voted for a crime plan which would see the first phase being rolled out between June and December 2010.
I know why I voted, I did not vote for any of the platform rubber talk from either parties, as I have been very vocal against this type of voting and blind loyalty. Platform rhetoric on the campaign trail is designed to hoodwink and to trap votes. And for those who would be so foolish to take what was said as the only deciding factor in casting a vote, I feel sorry for them.
I voted based on what obtained over the past eight years, the squandering of our resources, the neglect of the needy in society, the failure to curb an escalating crime trend, the continuous defence of corruption, the arrogance of Ministers as they addressed concerns related to corruption and I can go on and on so not to belabour the point I will say this. The fact is that the population today is a more educated one and the old politics has lost its relevance. The first sign of this was after the result of the internal election of the United National Congress. And then the result of the May 24 General Election, and if this was not convincing enough, this emancipated electorate again demonstrated just how developed they have become in terms of electing their leaders, they voted overwhelmingly in the July 26 Local Election and once again stated clearly what they voted for.
So the question remains, or does it?
