Gun Amnesty

The new CoP has hinted that it's possible that a gun amnesty could be introduced in the fight against crime. How will this work? A couple quick searches gave results that indicated that the amnesty relates to owners who have not renewed their licenses for example. How will this apply in our neck of the woods where guns are illegal?

Other results explained that the amnesty would not work. One particular result indicated that the gun is more than just a tool for personal defence or to defend turf. Instead, it provides these men with power and is seen as part of their identity. This simple but potent point is very important and fits in well with our situation here.

The debate continues. And all are pronouncing on this possible initiative. One argument, one that I support, is that why would we want to effectively forgive murderers for their crimes by asking them to bring in their guns and possibly collect a reward. Crime pays, all the time, ent?

By implementing a gun amnesty, are we saying that those who have lost loved ones to these low lives who decided to take what they want from hard working citizens instead of working for what they want, that it is ok just so long as you one day give up the "tool of the trade".

I cannot support this no matter what the pundits say, wait, well maybe I can find a way to support it. Maybe if the authorities say to the criminals that you would have this reflected on your record [possession of un-license guns are illegal, right?] and that if they are caught with an illegal gun after the amnesty, then they will face the full brunt of the law. Then I may decide to support this.

But for now, I cannot come to supporting this at all. This place has been riddled with bodies that fell prey to gun touting low lives who are fighting each other for what they consider their "turf" and for "respect". What ever the cause of this, who ever has failed them, has to be addressed, in the mean time these criminals must be dealt with according to law and from what I can remember guns are illegal, murders are illegal. And there must be no automatic pardons.
