Why call Local Election?
Maybe it is strategic to do so at this time considering the result of the just concluded General Election. Maybe it's similar to why Manning called General Elections, i.e. the PP was not so organised as to present a threat to the incumbent.
Whatever the reason, it has been called. Many have explored the whys; I too want to explore a possible why. Could it be the thinking that once this is out of the way, and that the PP may very well sweep the pools, that the PP may give themselves the green light to “do as they wish” in that they will see themselves as having such a mandate. I raise this in the context of the state of the economy after the PNM squandered the resources of this country in its quest the “transform us into a developed country” by 2020 or before. And that the PP may have to implement measures so as to take us out of the mess as it were and to hold local election this early will ensure they don’t have to answer an electorate for the next five years. Whatever the reason the fact remains that Local Election is over due, however we as a responsible electorate, with the development of a country and most importantly, its people in mind, it would be our duty to think as we cast our vote.
