The house approved the notification to appoint Mr. Nizam Mohammed as a member of the PSC. It was argued by the leader of the opposition that this is a dangerous act considering that Mr. Mohammed has and continues to be an "active" politician.
Mr. Dookeran defended the moved by asking if it was at all possible for Mr. Mohammed to act independently notwithstanding his politics.
Mr. Dookeran may very well have a point, and in a developed mature country, where the politicians can be trusted, this may not necessarily be an issue of concern, but I live in T&T, where does he live? For the past eight years we have seen the former regime use its majority to "do as they wish" and purport with great arrogance that they know best.
Today I am raising a flag, rather assisting the opposition leader in holding up the flag on this measure. Too often we take decisions that have proven to be, not in the best interest of all of our people, rather to benefit a particular agenda. And the agenda by this move may very well be that the govnt wants to appoint their own so as to "carry out the govnt's policies, as this was the excuse given by the former regime.
Have we learnt anything, has Manning lost his Prime Minister-ship in vain, I hope Dr. Rowley's stand on corruption was not in vain. We the people end up the losers.
